Digital body composition scoring
New smartphone applications are helping farmers to easily and accurately score the body condition of sow herds for example. Data indicators are regularly tracked and can be analyzed via these apps, enabling farmers to make better and more timely management decisions.
Body condition scoring (BCS) of animals is a commonly practiced and accepted indicator of health, well-being and fertility. But farmers have long faced the challenge of objectively and accurately scoring entire herds. With digitalised BCS visual subjectivity of scoring is minimised with simple photo-and-line fit systems, allowing for accurate and standardised assessment of individual animals.
