Sound monitoring systems can catch the first signs of disease on fish farms based off the volume and frequency of feed consumption, or on pig farms by pinpointing a cough right down to a specific pig, amongst the cacophony of sounds on the farm.

By picking up tell-tale signs of illness, farmers can alert the vet and ensure appropriate treatment early on or isolate a sick animal so as to avoid further spread. This technology used on pig farms has helped vets to detect signs of respiratory diseases in pigs up to two weeks earlier than under conventional conditions.
